Help with th 350 tranny drop and replace
I have a 79 camaro with a TH 350 and it blew acouple months ago, I got a TH 350 from my father from his 77 Corvette. I have never dropped a tranny before. I am looking for a good walk through online and some pointers. I am going to be doing this myself in my driveway. Any info would be helpful thank you.
Do you want to do it the hard way, or the easy way?
The hard way is crawling under the car, fighting with getting the bellhousing bolts off, dropping the trans (without breaking your hands), and then trying to fight it back up into place. You'll swear this trans weighs 1,000 lbs. when you're under the car trying to lift it up to even jockey it under a jack.
The easy way is to remove your radiator, driveshaft, engine wiring, and motor mount bolts. Then renting an engine hoist, and yanking out the engine & trans together. Separating and reattaching the trans to the engine is ten times easier when it's sitting on the open floor.
Everybody should do this both ways to know how much "fun" a driveway trans drop really is.
Now, if you had the car up on a lift, and had a trans jack, that's a different story.

Start by buying or renting a tranny jack. Don't try it without one, or you will fight it, or hurt yourself.
You'll also want to be sure to seat the torque converter properly before bolting it to the engine too. Once it is situated on the two aligning pins it's just a case of bolting all the bolts into the block, and then align the three bolts that connect the torue converter to the flexplate. You'll have to turn the engine over to get each bolt where you can access it to install them.
Then it's just connecting the kickdown and vacuum line to the engine. And finally slipping in the driveline and check fluid level at idle.
