A plan is always a good idea, but once I've written out a plan I still end up changing things. But without a plan you jump around and never seem to get anything done. Some things can't be planned ahead too far, like paint color. I narrowed mine down to a few colors, but in the end changed my mind and didn't use any of the three.
Whenever I build a car I make a list of all the steps I want to do, and then a parts list, but add as I go to each.

Hey I have an urgent question. I read around and people suggested a 2200rpm stall. This is what i ordered for my trans, will this work well for street driving? I know it should be better suited for that and a little weaker on the drag strip. Please give me your opinion.

Honesty, I don't know. 2200 sounds very streetable. It really depends on the cam. Ok I checked GMPP website. They sell a 4L85E specifically to go behind the 572 crate motor. It comes with, you guessed it a 2200 stall. I think it will fine at the strip or the street. What it really does is help get the motor into the powerband before moving the car. So if you went with something bigger it would flash higher than needed and create excess heat in the tranny.

Your fine, besides too small is better than too big in my opinion. Nice thing about a stick is no more guessing.

Yeah thanks for the reply. I cant imagine that i need to put a 3000 stall in it or anything, i am thinking 2200 might even be high. I havent seen a dyno sheet down that low but the engine makes like 550 ft/lbs at 3000rpm so i am hoping it works well together.

Still waiting on a delivery date for the trans, i guess i need to get some motor mounts coming soon here so i can have a shot at stuffing this rat in the front of my car soon.

My car came as an auto. But I had everything minus the Z bar. Took an afternoon to do it.

I sure wouldn't go any lower on the converter stall speed. Too high does create heat as Damon mentioned, but it's still better to error slightly high or it will begin to pull you through a stoplight at idle if you're too low.
I've had the too low situation and had to shift into neutral all the time at idle, and then when you put it in gear it bangs in gear. As long as your stall speed is low enough to allow for full engine torque to operate it will not build excess heat. I think with 3.73 gears your engine will be in the correct range to not have heat issues with the 2200 stall.

Well I made it home from work and decided to have a look at the car that I have been thinking about all day every day for the last 30 days… It was looking a little sad so I decided to give it a quick bath. Nothing crazy just gave it a quick spray to take off the mud and the melted rubber from the rear fenders. I did a quick engine cleaning as well but after it dried I noticed I could have put a bit more effort into it.

Then yesterday and today I decided to tackle the rear seats. The covers came from Year One several years ago and sat in the shop until a couple days ago. I have never done a re covering before but I am not 100% satisfied with the fitment of the covers. (yes I am blaming the covers, not the installer ) The two bottom seat covers have a different cut then the original covers. There was not enough material on the back sides of the seats and therefore I could not pull out the some of the wrinkles. The back rest cover had the opposite problem. There was a little too much material and I couldn’t pull the cover as tight as I would have liked. All in all the covers will do. This is not, nor ever will be a show car so I will leave the covers how they are now. Besides my fingertips are burnt from using the heat gun.

Now I decided to work on the interior a bit more. I think I am going to pull the carpet again and repaint the floor. I haven’t seen under the carpet for several years and don’t remember how bad it is. I feel as if I am wasting my time pulling the carpet because this winter I am going to get a cage welded in. Regardless if I do pull the carpet and paint I am going to lay down the Dynamat too.

I am getting bored waiting for the transmission to come, hopefully it shows up soon so that I can get the BBC in!

Well after i posted the pictures last night, i went back out to the shop to work on this thing. I pulled the passenger side kick panel to get ready to replace it with new. After i did that i decided to pull the carpet as well. Yanked out the rear peice of carpet and will pull the front one as soon as i remove the driver side kick panel. I spent 5 hours pulling the sound dampener we installed 12 years ago and it only took me a few minutes to remember how terrible it is to chip out this stuff. I am around 1/6 done. Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end.

Some other good news i received today was a UPS tracking number on my transmission. Hopefully it will arrive at the canadian boarder in a day or two and then hopefully it will clear customs sooner rather then later. If everything goes will i should have my trans late next week. I will try to get it mocked up in the car before next weekend if it arrives.
