Used car dealers have a bag of tricks that make cars more saleable. Some good, some pretty underhanded. Most the salesmen said they didn't like the cars to look freshly painted under the hood, but they did want them clean and look well maintained. The clear coat made everything look good, but still had the little paint chips, and original look.

I know, I know lol. But it makes the wifey happy and it gives me leway come Camaro time hahahaha lol. But seriously though, i had to get it done. My shift changed at work and couldnt get a ride on the same days anymore and sick of asking people for rides lol. i take the van to work and the wife would be stuck in the house and have to bundle up the rugrats to pick the oldest one up from school. So i got a good deal on it (mainly beacuase it guzzles gas lol) needed a bit of work but nothing i couldnt handle. so now we have the van for my winter beater, the dodge for her for all season and my camaro to look pretty while i still drive my van to work in the summer lol (most likely lol).

That Cherokee straight six is one tough engine to beat! If it's got the straight six I sure consider putting another back in it. My son in law has had a Cherokee with that engine for some time, and it's sure been a good one!

just read it all and now im wanting to go work on mine lol. Great looking car Joe im a few million steps behind you on my 79 and im already worrying about paint and other stuff that wont come up for a long time. Also wanted to say thanks a million for the diagrams on your other thread theyll help me out a ton down the road. A few quick questions where did you buy your battery tray, how did you sand your headers, and by any miracle do you know where i could find a decent dash that wont cost me an arm and both of my legs? thanks in advance!

No such thing as a cheap 79 dash. I've seen nice used ones go for 300-500. I saw a NOS one go for 1g on ebay. They are selling them in cataloged but nobody is producing them yet. What you will get for your money is a spot in line when they do go into production.
