I jumped when I saw the carb was a 800 too, and I think it'll be awhile till I need it all, so instead of jetting it down etc. mabey i'll stick at 650.
a mild-heavy cam for me, NO idea where to begin with what cam, to many options. Good Idea on the used intake. I'd love to go 202 heads, we've been talking about it. I prefer holley but hey, money talks! One other thing, I'd like to eliminate the timing chain and put in just gears, anyone else do this?

The Holley is cheaper priced than the Eddy, so if you want a Holley I'd go for it. I prefer them myself. The 2.02 heads are not much money if you have your's reworked to 2.02, as the basic heads are the same, it's just valve size. Since your heads will probably need a rebuild anyway, it doesn't cost anything extra to put a 2.02 seat in vs. a 1.75 or 1.88 seat. My local machine shops will replace all the guides, seats, and valves to amke them like new for $300 on my heads.
The timing gears or double roller timing chain both offer good reliability, but the gears are of course noisy. On the right car I like that, but some find gears too noisy.

Here is a current wishlist I put together from summit racing. I will put together a wishlist from some sites you guys mentioned to compair pricing. Nothing is in stone but this is along the lines of the plan. Please help me narrow down on what size of cam. I like these kits that come with matched springs etc. I also figured a intake kit was the way to go.

Also I will have my heads done either myself or at a local shop to make them 2.02

Should I get an aftermarket ignition or use stock? Also I'm still thinking of skipping on the torque converter and just putting sythetic in the trans (350)

so far the summit wishlist is $1018.28
http://www.kmjent.com/cart/product.php?productid=1803 i just found this and also forgot i need a rad too. I need a right rear tail light/ mabey just the lens, and good body part websites?

Go to Nasty z. Look for a guy screen named leafs 11. He has like 6 sets for sale right now. There not cheap just so you know.

Your stock dizzy will be fine as long as its in good shape. (no slop in the shaft) Maybe an aftermarket coil and module to help with throttle response and good spark. It maybe overkill though, I ran stock stuff for a very long time before I switched to an MSD 6AL. The only real difference I saw was it started quicker and when my secondary floats stuck open one time it kept the thing running just long enough to save me a long walk. Nothing would foul the plugs.

I don't like Eddy cams. That one is pretty big too. Way too much duration for a stock headed engine. Here is a sensible cam.http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-CL12-242-2/ http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-60102LK/http: and for that real lope at idle.//www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-CL11-600-4/

If you stepped up to Vortec heads you could get more cam and a ton more power.

Ok so I played a little. I tried to stay at a grand but couldn't resist. I got $1443.79. The difference is I built a 383 and didn't factor headers. Some of the extra money can be off set by the fact you won't have to have you crank turned or your rods re-sized. Can't beat the summit carb deal either. But this package will be stout and make 400hp easy. If you bought the intake package from Summit and the rotating assembly from Comp products it would be $426 + $925 = $1351 Still need gaskets and other odds and ends but that is a good deal in my book.

Just fooling around here. I love building engines. But what ever you do don't buy more cam than your heads can deliver on.

Looks pretty good so far! You'll definitely want some good springs on the heads when you rebuild them with a cam that's got that much lift!
If you need a good distributor, I've got a brand new Chevy HEI with cap and coil that I'd sell really cheap! It was brand new on my 327, but it wouldn't clear my tunnel ram, so I went to a Pertronix with std. cap and separate coil.

If money was no object I might go roller, but otherwise a flat tappet is always my first choice! Cam kits with springs and lifters are a great way to go. No question about whether the springs are correct then!

As far as new good springs, I've been looking at cam kits, aka you get a cam and springs. I'm going to assume the springs they give you with the cam will go well together?

Also the heads will be built to 2.02 heads. So with that in mind we can narrow down on a cam w/ springs that will work well with that intake package and headers.

PS I will be gone soon for a week just so you know I havn't tore off.

I've been looking at rolling kits but I dont think it's worth it yet;

I'll use stock crank&rods
Rebuild kit comes with bearings/gaskets/pistons
Heads rebuilt into 2.02 with the springs from the
new cam
new intake/carb
headers
timing gears
ignition unknown
Thats about got it covered I believe
