Default 1979 Base Coupe 305 new exhaust

Need to replace exhaust on 1979 Base Coupe. Ordering pye-sgf70s and these Down pipes flo-81068 from Summit.
Can I just replace the catalytic converter with the down pipe? I don’t think it has an O2 sensor but not sure. Asking the experts here.
Trying to leave as close to stock as possible. 22k miles, ZBart so no rust. Kept in garage and solid, original machine. 305 so peppy but no muscle car! Ha!
New white letter TA radials and just replaced sagging headliner. She is still fun to drive and besides some door dings basically mint.
Any help appreciated and thanks for looking!

The 1979 didnt have an O2 sensor just one of those pellet type catalytic converters .I would use an exhaust from a 1979 Z-28 .But use a later model high flow homey comb one instead.

Zspoiler,

Thanks for the info! I was wondering if I needed to modify the downpipe for an O2 sensor.

I like the color of your car! Ha! Hey is that factory ground effects or did you do it yourself? That thing looks like a beast! I bet she turns a lot of heads when you're out cruising!

Default Jegs XPipe

I went ahead and installed the JEG’s X pipe SS exhaust and it really woke up the engine!
I removed the CAT and installed an Edelbrock 600CFM Carb and intake, de-smogged the engine and lost about 125 lbs with the AC.
It’s no 350 but fun to drive and sounds great!
I also picked up a vintage pair of M/T valve covers which really finished the engine bling.
