Your on the right track. They say soak the bolts for a week prior to using a breaker bar.

Nobody will be able to see the cage, so make it whatever you like. Some heat on the nut before you use penetrant will help suck the fluid into the nut/bolt.

Just don't tack weld a nut to the body. They need to move to adjust the frame.

The Camaro gods were smiling upon me today and I got the rest of the bolts out without mishap. Good suggestion on using heat BTW. At first the fronts didn't want to give up but a few minutes with a torch took care of it.

Tomorrow I'll be removing the axle. I already know the shackle bolts will be a challenge. Any other helpful tips before I get started?

Dropping the gas tank will help getting the leaf spring bolts out.

I had issues with mine and I just got in there with a sawzall and cut them off on the inside towards the tank. Just slip the blade between the spring and the shackle and chop the bolt. Once it's chopped you can drop the springs down and get the rest out.
Dropping the tank is good if you want to see if the build sheet is still on top of the tank too!

After my experience with the sub-frame I was more cautious with the rear-end. Everything came out OK. I did drop the tank and yes there was a build sheet. It's the 3rd one I've found in this car. The other two were under the rear seat cushion and behind the rear seat back.

Today marks a milestone with this project - major disassembly is completed. Now the fun part starts.

With the sub-frame and axle off and the body shell stripped down I'm going to start underneath first.

What do you guys paint your underbody with? I plan to scrape off any loose undercoating and then just paint over what's left. I was thinking of Zero Rust in black or dark brown. Probably same thing for the sub-frame.

Just wanted to get some other opinions first.

My car has two coats of POR 15 on the bottom with a coat of gloss black Rustoleme. I get quarts from Walmart for 8 bucks. When thinned with acetone it sprays nice and I have laid perfectly smooth coats. I couls shave with the reflection on my tie rods. Anyhow. I covered the POR because it turns chalky and flakes off it the prep isn't done perfectly. The Rustoleme can be touched up on the cheap and looks good.
