Default What the heck is this thing?

Ok now that i have your attention, I just wanted to know, i have a 1980 camaro and I recently ripped out the carpet and upon doing so, i noticed a switch on the floorboard on the drivers side underneath the parking brake. the car does not run right now so i cant test it to see what it does BUT i think it may be the dimmer switch. Now if you know what it does, before you call me an idiot i looked up carpet online and found a description that said "heel pad grommet for dimmer switch" as a part of the carpet.

Is it the dimmer switch for the headlights?

The dem switch which was on most late model cars was located on the left hand side of the driver floor board directly across from the brake and was used to turn on / off your bright lights ................. you simply just used your left foot to press down on the button and you either turned on your bright lights or you turned them off.

if its like a button, I wondered the same thing. Its your high beams. it should stick up through the carpet so your foot can hit it.

i dont think this will help but mabe it would seem werid on a 1980 but then again i never owened a car older then 85. my 87 z it was on the column to turn high and brights off and simmilar with my 85 corvette. my only pre 1980 car is my 1969 vett which on that it is on the floor but it sorta like a little paddel all the way off to the left. i dont know best of luck with it

Yer, it's definitely the high beam switch.
Its a button that should come through the carpet on the left hand side of the driver foot well which allows you to activate the high beams (on/off) with your left foot. I've got exactly the same thing on my 68 Mustang.

It's a good idea putting that button on the floor...Cause you know when your going 120+ at night you wouldnt want to let go of the steering wheel to turn on the highbeams...well I wouldnt...lol.
