Look underneath the car. See that sideways pipe that makes a right angle with the exhaust pipe? What is that?

Hard to tell from the pictures - you'll need to take a pic from under the car to tell for sure but like jjz28 says - looks like the muffler to me too.

I'll get a better pic in a bit, just waiting for the camera to charge up. But just to be clear, I don't mean the pipe which the smoke exits from, but the one that leads to it, making a right angle with it, which is placed right underneath my gas tank.

I looked up catbacks and it looks a kinda similar. In which case it'd cancel my plans on getting a new setup.

If you're talking about that long oval shaped thingy that's connected to your tailpipe and sitting below the gas tank....that's your muffler. But someone replaced the Z28 style dual outlet muffler with a single exit one.

Now what got me concerned about it was the fact that everytime I put gas in my car I get a lotta evaporated gasoline coming outta the gas tank. I'm thinking maybe the heat of this muffler is what's causing it. Because I'm doing very bad on gas, it's doing 10-13mpg even when I'm really easy on the gas the whole time.

That is where all the mufflers are on the 4th gen camaros (I think). That is definately very, very bad gas mileage. Are you stock? Mine gets double that. 27 on interstate but i dont know in city. I have a 6 speed. You definately arent getting what you should if its stock. The muffler shouldnt have anything to do with that problem. I wouldn't think anyway.

better look for gas leaking somewhere. thats a muffler alright and its not the right one for the car but could be ok. the converter should be up towards the front right after the two pipes come together that come from each side of the motor. unless u have two then the cats would be right befor the pipes come together. with milage like that the cat could be plugged. could be a bad cat is messing up the evap to.

That is a cutout right there before you exhaust goes over the rear axle.
