Speedometer problems....

Default Speedometer problems....

I got a 81Camaro my speedometer is correct until you get to around 55 mph....and it'll show me goin 65mph.....but when it reads around 45 or below its correct.....It is the original speedometer....Is there somthinI can do or is it time to get a new one....

It's probably the gear in the transmission or the cable is rounding out the plastic trans gear.

So what am I lookin at....?...can I solve it by getting a new speedometer?....How much money and how big of a job is this?...and what if it is the gears...?

If uncle bill is right, then no a new speedo wont fix it. the speedometer gear is near the back of the transmission on the driver side. the speedo cable runs to that location.

Yah I know exactly where you're talking about...I had to deal with that thing when I changed out my transmission....how much are we lookin at here....and what are some ways to test out each theory??
