Default Need help 78 Camaro project

Anybody have any tips or advice on how to remove the steering column out of a 1978 Camaro. I have taken out all the bolts disconnected all the electrical fittings very easily, but I am having a lot of trouble removing the lower end of the steering column from the steering shaft. I've tried WD40, Deep Creep and even took a buddies advice and poored a can of coke on the join but it wont break loose. I've been reading in my chilton and looking online and all it says is to "remove the nut/ bolt from the upper intermediate shaft coupling, then seperate the coupling from the lower end of the steering column" now i wish it was the easy, but it says nothing about how/ or what tools to use to do this. so im hoping there is a special tool or ancient chinese secret that will work. any help will be appreciated thanks.

those steering shafts collapse and if they stick they are hell to get off, ive took vise grips and clamped on them and took a hammer and hit the vise grips to drive the shaft down b4 to get them off

This could be stating the obvious, but have you gotten the bolt out of where the column splines to the rag joint. It requires a 12 point wrench and it should come out. Mine is older and it came off just fine, maybe the fact that it was covered in grease and oil kept it from rusting together. If you're trying to get the column apart, soaking with PB Blaster and the vise grip trick maybe the thing, but you got to get it out first.

take the whole steering linkage from the rag joint up and do final dissassembly on the bench second you did get the cowl seal and the bolt on the outside of the fire wall
