Default What year engine is this?

I bought a engine from a guy who told me it came out a late 60's or early 70's camaro and im trying to find out what it came out of and what kind of stock power it had. The number on the block is 3970010 and the number on the intake is 3965577 firing order is 18436572 and i also saw k 12 on the block oh yea and 3969837 was also on the block. Can someone help me out because for the moment its getting put in my 77 impalafor the moment until i rebuild it this summer probably to a 355. Thanks again Oh yea and it has camel hump heads also, thanks

The only real way to tell is to get the numbers off the front of the motor. It's located under the front of the right head. It's a date code when that block was made. It's a good chance it's a 350, but with the casting number you gave us there is three different motors it could be.

I wouldn't rely on the intake, who knows what's been swapped around and changed.

Im certain thats the original engine cause its the original 4 barrel on there and the old points distributer but now i have a new problem. The guy thats putting the engine in for me was ready to drop it in my chevy after he painted the engine and had it looking real nice when he takes out the old spark plugs that was in the engine and water came out of it. Should i not even let him drop it in because i would be out of the money i have to pay him for labor or should i go back to the guy and ask for another 350 (which he told me he would give me if the engine didn't run) or should i keep the engine and rebuild it because the engine is a 1970 350 engine???

seriously, if someone didn't even know the year of the engine when they sold it to you, there is no way you can "be certain" that it is original just because it has the "original" 4 barrel (how do you know that's original) and it has points.

this is where things get sketchy when people sell "numbers matching" cars. they say they are numbers matching, original and want the big money for them, but they never actually documented the car to prove it. they just "know" the cars a right or they go by what someone told them, or what "looks right" to them

good luck either way

A buddy of mine ran the numbers on it and he told me it could of came out of a camaro or vette, either or it was a high performance engine in 1970 with stock hp of 300, 350, or 370. But there is still a issue with water in the engine so the guy told me he's gonna give me a running chevy 350 so im gonna take that. Thank you to all who replied and tried to help.
