I think that this is the place. I see their ads all the time in my searches for a 4l80e... I do believe it requires a core though, but I'm wondering if any core will work. If not, what is the value of a core? A couple hundred?

well it's $2400 for a manual 4l80 with mechanical tailhousing to run a mechanical speedo plus $500 for custom converter so close to $3k. It's not a built 4l80 but rebuilt with all new parts and duel fed direct clutches. That's all you need for about 750hp. I can get a stock rebuilt 4l80 locally for $1100 and could just add a manual kit for $150 plus $500 for converter and $500 for mechanical tailhousing kit which would put it at around $2350 so a savings of around $700. I could do that too..and have enough for new crossmember, driveshaft shortened and new exhaust

damn the local guy that rebuilds 4L80's for 1100 said that doesn't include the core charge and that is usually around $500..hmm i guess it's either the 4L80 w/ converter for $2900 or a built th400 and custom converter for $1600

Get a 4L80 for 800 then build it with parts like a revised valve body and change weaknesses and weak parts as required.
And definitely do some T top bracing .
And get the 70 housing 12 bolt because the track width and strength are far more valuable a thing and a hard find.
And is the most universal out of the other parts that you may not end up with a perfect fitting combination.

Jason, are you getting the $1200 stimulus? Put some C clip eliminators on that 12 bolt, and go 3" exhaust..
