what would you get first with $500?

Ok I'm getting my 580-600hp 468 big block in a few weeks and I won't be driving my car until summer so i have time to get a few things before that. I have $500 now to spend and I'm not sure which to get first. I need a new trans and rear end because i'm just using the stock th350 and 10 bolt. I have found a th400 with only 10k miles with a b&m shift kit and 3000 stall converter for $500. I have also found a 12 bolt housing from a 70 camaro for $500. Or I can get a Pypes 3" full exhaust for about $500.

I know I can build my 10 bolt but if i can build a 12 bolt for only a few hundred more then mise well and they are hard to find. I do need a stronger trans though, I want to get a 4L80 but it's gonna be awhile to save for it so was thinking i could get the th400 for now and drive my car. I also need a better exhaust for the new engine because my 2.25" dual exhaust isn't gonna cut it. Wish i could get all 3 but that's not gonna happen at the moment lol. I'd get the trans first if the 12 bolt wasn't so hard to find. Which would be best to get first? and why?

Personally, I would go with the transmission. I'm sure that you already know that your rear is the 8.5 inch ten bolt, which should be able to handle your new motor for a while.

I say trans. Get the motor and trans in the car. Then start looking for a rear end. You don't even really "need" that to get the car going. I'd do the pipes next. Diff last.

I picked the exhaust. The 2.25 will choke that 468. The turbo 350 and stock rear end can hand alot as long as your not gonna go drag racing w/ slicks. Maybe a torque converter. But really, you won't get enough traction to blow anything up.

I didn't see he had a trans already. I say an exhaust too for that matter then. Save up and go for a 4l80e if that is what you ultimately want and have your overdrive.

Ok but if i get the exhaust then maybe I should wait to put it in until i get the 4L80 trans so i don't have to pull the exhaust when i do the swap. and yeah i know it's a 8.5" 10 bolt which are strong and was going to rebuild it this summer but won't be able too if i get the 4L80. Maybe I will just save the 500 towards my 4L80. It's like 2900 with converter. ouch lol

2 1/2" exhaust will be enough bud, you dont need 3" if your running duals. imo it sounds a little hollow when you do. i say th400

Your post says 2 1/4", your sig says 2 1/2". Either way that 468 will wanna breath.

I wouldn't get any of the items mentioned. I'd wait until the 468 got there and then see what you'll need to make it go into the car. You'll most likely need motor mounts, headers, brackets, and pulleys. You'll eat up $500 really quick, and no sense in getting anything for the exhaust or drivetrain until you know you've got what you need to put the engine together and get it in the car.

Yeah i'm thinking of just saving for the 4l80 trans. I already have headers and pulleys and brackets. and my exhaust is 2.25" i believe and not 2.5", i gotta change that
