What did you decide on? I'm just curious because thats sorta what I'm going for too. Although I'm planning on staying with a small block and one of my (cheaper) options is just rebuilding the 350 I have.

well after tons of deciding and researching between going with a 383 or big block.i found and decided on this 454 with 510hp and 560tq with 10:1 cr. its got good parts and a warranty and is fully turn key with belts, carb and alt and starter..its the most power that's really "streetable" that i could find in my budget. its also dyno'd and dyno tuned and broken in on the dyno

its 6400

Very nice! That's a little out of my price range...actually 5000 is a little out of my range, but I'm thinking that instead of spending 3500 or so on my stock 350, that I might as well just spend a little more and get a decent crate motor with some good HP and a warranty.

yeah too much hp and too big a cam and its not streetable. so this is the most streetable 510hp i could find in my price range

yeah if u can find a crate for around 3500-4000 that would be good but you could build up your 350 to a 383 for around 3k and that would save you a few thousand that you could spend on other stuff like rear but then no warranty. since you will need a new rear end and/or tranny depending on how much hp and tq you want

you could build your 350 to a 400 plus hp 383 for a few thousand less than a crate and use the extra on your tranny or rear end. but its up to you. try and find the best bang for the buck and do lots of research.

Problem is the heads, intake, carb, and all that that I want to put on my 350 would cost a few thousand...and it would be pretty hard for me to stroke it out to 383 without spending a bunch more money on it. I have a feeling the block is only a 2 bolt main...so too many mods and I'd be looking for a 4 bolt main anyways. Thats why for 5000 for a 383 (or less for a 350) is almost worth the little extra it would cost up front. Eventually I'd want to put a new motor in the car anyways...so idk...gotta figure out whether the engine I have is worth rebuilding and/or if I want to just spend the extra money and go for a crate engine. The nice part about getting one of the crate engines I mentioned is that almost all of them are already built for max HP...I mean they have good heads, intake manifolds, ignition, etc. already on them.

yeah i know..thats kinda why i wanna get a crate, its already assembled and dyno'd and tuned for good hp and tq..and they have a warranty. and usually not a bad price for the power. nothings less than building it yourself though of course

Wow, those arent bad motors either! I'll definitely have to consider those too. Now I have too many to chose from!
