As far as carbs go, they work fine. No choke, no fast idle, so you need to feather the gas pedal for a minute or so till the engine wants to stay idling. I spose you could probably wedge your cane against the pedal as a makeshift fast idle.
I still have an off-idle hesitation. Playing with the accelerator pump settings, removing one pump cam, and changing the linkage to progressive didn't make any difference for the better. I've pretty much narrowed it down to being my mechanical advance pro-billet distributor. For the street, mechanical is not the way to go. Oh well, live and learn, "nifty looking" isn't always what it's cracked up to be.
I noticed your old carbs were sitting side-saddle. Are you going to mount the new ones the same way, or in-line?

Unfortunately I don't have any choice but side saddle. The Holley Pro Dominator cants the carbs about 15 degrees off center in an effort to equalize the flow of fuel to all 8 cyl. That means the carbs wont clear to allow normal inline setup. It's a very cool looking and functioning intake, and I really like that it's very low for a tunnel ram, and has the small plenum that works a bit better at bottom end, but not as flexible as your's.

Got home from our early Christmas trip to the kid's house and my neighbor had accepted shipment of the new carbs!Unfortunately too cold and late to install them, but that will happen first thing tomorrow!
Man I was going stir crazy knowing they were here the last 4 days, and I was not able to install them and do another test run! Gotta get them on and get the Austin licensed for the 1st of Jan. annual winter run! Better get the Land Cruiser heater installed too, so I wont freeze on the run!

Get you a leather bomber jacket and some goggles and rough it. Its freezing rain here right now and deep snow is on its way, so I'm not really thinking about a test drive in the Camaro. I may charge the battery on the T/A for some winter hi-jinks though.

Afraid my goggles will fog up in the damp cold!
I got the carbs installed today, and reinstalled the Hilborn scoop. Also cut my hole in the hood so it can peek through. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the throttle cable and fab up a bracket to attach it to the intake pointing straight up. My linkage pulls down, so need the cable to do a 90 before it hits the manifold.

I got everything ready to pull the engine out of it along with the typical cursing and frustration of working on a car. Air conditioning housing is still giving me hell, think I'm gonna modify it while the engine is out. with the engine mounts I just remove the through bolt and then their ready to separate right?

that air conditioning housing is a bi#*h sometimes... there was 1/4" between mine and the headders and was just kinda in the way... the car didn't have air conditioning so i just took a hammer and a chissel to mine and cut/broke it out and i'm going to make a more sreamlined air passage for the heater blower

That's what I'm gonna do to my air unit as well cause my headers are crap to begin with cause I bought summit so on half of the bolts I can get a socket on but the other ones I have to use a wrench and that air unit just doesn't give any room to work with.

Make sure you pull the dizzy cap off. There is a good chance you'll break it otherwise.
