Vibration at 52-55 mph
Looking for some help. I have a '69 Z28 Camaro. Rides great except at 52-55 mph range. At that point car begins to vibrate and shake. Rides pretty smooth both above and below 52-55 mph! Can't figure this one out? Put on new front tires and balanced, but did not solve the problem. Anyone ever had this same problem? Any suggestions?? Thanks.
Do you feel it in the sterring wheel or in the seat of your pants, if you feel it through the sterring wheel check for loose sterring linkage, ball joints. you did the most common fix so look at the others. also check for a bent wheel and wheel bearrings. If you feel it through the seat then check the rear tires, bent wheels, U-Joints, driveshaft and axle bearrings
I know its a broad answer but thats what would cause a vibration

Wade,
Thanks for the response. When car does shake, can feel it in the wheel as well as seats. As I pick up mph I would think that it would get worse, but it smooths right out?? We had drive shaft out to put a clutch in this summer. The u-joints looked ok. Does this narrow it down? If a wheel was bent slightly, would it smooth out with speed? How would I go about testing each wheel for this?

Does it do it in high gear only?
Does it do it only when you step on the gas or does it do it while just cruising down the road holding it at those speeds?
What type of clutch is it and how old and miles on clutch?

You could still have an tire/wheel out of balance condition. Typically that is how it shows up, vibration at a certain speed and it goes away at a higher speed. I assume you had the tires spin balanced, if not you should get it done. Also, brake parts, such as rotors or drums, could also be out of balance, and then no matter how much you balance the tires the car still shakes. Also poor front suspension alignment can cause a shimmy condition and it should be looked at. If it is a suspension problem, a good front end shop should br able to straighten it out. Otherwise you need to start looking at anything that spins. When the clutch was replaced was the flywheel also replaced? They come in two flavors, internal and external balance, although in this case the engine should shake at certain RPM while in neutral.
