Default turbo 400 transmission

I recently bought a 350 small block to drop into my 1980 camaro, and when i went to pick it up and to my pleasent surprise there was a turbo 400 trans attatched to it. I currently have a turbo 350 trans and hadnt really considered replacing it.... but now that i have this free turbo 400 i figure why the hell not throw it in... but I was just wondering how much of a hassle it would be...i know im going to have to relocate the cross member, but i just wanted to know how much, and if the 1980 camaro came with the th400 option, because i could just go to a junk yard somewhere and rip one of the cross members out of that and just drill some new holes and call it good....or am i just full of ****, just looking to get some input from someone who knows a little more then me, thanks a-lot.

You would also need to change the Yoke on the drive shaft and probably get the drive shaft shortened or lenghtened depending on whether it is a short tail or long tail trans. You might get lucky and just need to change the shaft yoke and crossmember.

its the same cross member you just need to move it. it even takes the same mount, it really is not a big deal to change it. but your a lucky guy, i would kill for a free tranny, specially a kick *** 400!!

YOU CAN USE THE SAME CROSSMEMBER,YOU HAVE TO MOVE IT BACK ABOUT 4",REDRILL THE FRAME.GET A 4OO YOKE AND SHORTEN THE DRIVESHAFT.YOU WILL HAVE TO ALTER THE SHIFTER HOOK UP AT THE TRANNY.YOU WILL HAVE TO WRESTLE THE DIPSTICK TUBE IN THERE.YOU CAN USE THE SAME MODULATOR AND TORQUE CONVERTER.THE BEST THING TO DO IS GET IT IN THERE WITH THE CROSSMEMBER IN PLACE AND USE A SQUARE ,MAKE 2 VERTICAL LINES DOWN THE FRAME AND ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME.NOW TAKE THE CROSSMEMBER AND PUT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME AND CENTER PUNCH YOUR HOLES.USE A HOLE SAW TO DRILL A HOLE BIG ENOUGH FOR A 9/16 DEEP WELL SOCKET TO FIT THRU,ONCE THRU THE FRAME CONTINUE WITH A 3/8 HOLE(HOLD THE DRILL STRAIGHT)
