Not sure what Power Tour is but if there's beer tents involved, I'm sure it's fun. Do you seriously have an extra driver side door? I'm going to hope the guy in Muskegon doesnt sell that tonneau cover until next week. If he's still got it, I'll be heading that way for sure. Would it be possible to corrdinate a visit with you for some part shopping?

I have a semi good door. I would reuse it I f I had to, but I don't. Its got some serious dents after moving twice.

Power Tour is a tour Hot Rod Mag. does every year coast to coast. There starting in Detroit next year and going to Arlington Texas. Back in June they stopped here. It was so well taken that people who have done the tour for 17 yrs called it the best stop ever. The magazine people were so impressed they decided to come back two years in a row. Absolutely unheard of. There were 3-4000 cars here. It was awesome.

That sounds intense and I'll look forward to that next year. Have you ever done the Woodward cruise in Detroit? Absolutely insane the cars that are there.
It's looking like the guy is going to hold that tonneau cover for me until next week so I might be visiting Muskegon on Tuesday. Would love the chance to meet you and maybe do a little part shopping?
Kinda feel like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for tomorrow to get here so I can finally get the gears changed. Santa's coming in a brown truck tomorrow morning with the parts and straight to the shop to get it done!

Success! Got everything installed today and was able to take it for a ride. What a difference... Aside from feeling like it's missing a gear at 55mph it's just awesome. Didn't really beat on it but just before the house I got on it a bit and broke the back tires loose when I hit 2nd...good stuff. The speedo is so far off now it says 100mph when I'm around 50. Seems like I might want to look into a 700r4 or something with O/D after I get the 327 in there this winter.
Thanks again for all the insight and info gentlemen. What a huge relief to finally have this done. Now I need to get an actual project thread going...

3.9? will do that. Good for you. Nice that you got it fixed. I'm guessing things happen a lot sooner now that the gear is winding the motor up faster.

Have a serious question..... It's not that I don't believe the guys that did the work but I was told to let the Truetrac "break in" which is obvious. The rear end is making A TON of noise when I drive the car. Is this normal? And for how long? When I read about the Detroit Truetrac, the first thing it says it "quiet, smooth" operation. That's not happening here. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but, also want to make sure that's normal and not something potentially catastrophic with the install.

I just can't believe the difference these gears have made on this car. It's still stock, of course, but after my drive last night I realize that the tires are chirping almost every time I shift....even once or twice in 3rd. (insert Darth Vader voice)...Impressive. Guess I never realized that would happen without redoing the trans. I haven't been hard on this yet per instructions but it should be interesting when I can!

Have the mechanic who installed it take it for a spin. Say nothing about chirping tires.

Yeah I think I'll give them a call on Monday morning. They did drive the car and told me that it would make noise until it had time to "break in." Think he already knows about the shifting and tires because he made a comment when I picked it up about shifting good and hard. It's all stock but just runs and shifts good still. It's only been a few miles since it was done (20 give or take) so who knows. Just wanna make sure it's all right.

What kind of noise are you hearing? on drive or on coast? and are all the insides new or used? If a gearset is properly set up, 97% of the time it will not make noise. There are some exceptions. Some sets are just noisy. It has a lot to do with the quality of the gear. I've noticed that 3.73's and 3.92's are more prone to noise. 5 cut gears tend to be more quiet than 2 cut, they pattern better. New gears need at least three heat cycles to break in, 20-30mins @ operating temp then complete cooldown, three times. Don't exceed 50 mph, no shock load or hard acceleration.
