Detroit TruTrac is a good one, it uses helical gears, same a Torsen. I have one in the front of my K20. Auburn makes about the best L/S on the market. Simple design, very durable, and they offer a hi perf unit. We replace every G80 with an Auburn regardless, that would be my recommendation.

Detroit TruTrac is what I personally want. It doesn't have clutches. The trutrac and locker are both Eaton. There clutch type is a good unit as well. I think you will be fine with Eaton, plus it keeps money right here in Michigan.

Good to know gentlemen, thanks. Looks like there's about $10 difference between the truetrac and the auburn high performance. Add a set of gears and the bearing kit I already have and I've only spent about $150 - $200 more than I did on this rearend. Oh, the headaches this would have saved...

I went with a Power Trax locker when I changed to posi, because I didn't want to pull everything apart to swap in a posi unit, and the Power Trax gave me a quick and inexpennsive way to change in just a couple hours.
I've had mine in since the 80's and it's still holding in there, but if you're completely rebuilding the rearend with new gears and carrier, then you have numerous options.

Progress...
Got a Truetrac, HD bearing kit and gears ordered and they should be here Friday. Thought I'd get a little crazy and went with the 3.90 gears. I'm gonna press to see if I can get it all installed by Friday afternoon. That'll give me enough time to take a spin, drive downstate and hobble up into a tree stand to hunt Saturday morning.

I think I've got the Chevelle rear end sold, taking a little hit on it but oh well. When all is said and done after returning all the stuff I bought before (perches, bearing kit, cover) it wasn't too harsh for new stuff. What a route to take to get there though...

Sounds like you're getting things sorted out! The 3.90 gears will be fun!

I'm not gonna complain as I'm excited to have all brand new guts in the Camaro rear end. Par for the course, after I hit the "submit" button to order my parts I looked on craigslist again. A guy in Muskegon has a posi rear end out of a '79Camaro for sale for $400. Side note, I also found a fiberglass tonneau cover for my truck in Muskegon too! Now that would have been a worthwhile trip Nomad, that's where you're at right? Oh well, seems to be the way things are gonna go on this project. I'm not really much into "naming" my rides but I think MURPHY (as in the law) would be suitable for this car.

LOL lets hope you can happily cruse Murphy for a while without many problems after this. Yup I am born and raised for the most part right here is Muskegon. Make sure you gat down here for Power Tour next summer. I had a blast last year. This is the first time they are going to the same place two years in a row. They liked us that much.
