RE: tranny leak
I've had more than a couple of cars that would do that. My 69 used to pee a small puddle if it sat for more than a week without driving, and a lot after a long winter's nap. Yours is more than likely leaking from the stock loose-fitting aluminum speedo cable gear housing on the side of the trans. Even a new o-ring didn't help mine. I found a very well made, machined steel gear housing on ebay. Slapped that sucker in, and it stays bone-dry now.
Here you go, I found it:

And, if you only disconnected the cable but didn't remove the gear housing, then it would still be the gear housing that's leaking. I would still recommend replacing it with a good one. A lot of times, that's one of the last places people think to look for a leak.
BTW, a tailshaft seal isn't going to leave a big puddle unless the trans is overfilled or if the car is parked uphill, since the trans fluid doesn't rest quite as high as the output opening of the seal. The opening for the speedo on the tail however is a bit lower than the rear seal is, making it the first one to want to leak.
