So,
I have recently come across a camaro that I can't live without. I can't tell the year by looking at it, it is somewhere between 1975-1980 though. I want to go talk to the seller today, but I want some general information about the common defects that come up with these classics. I made a mistake by not knowing my first car when I bought it, and I don't feel like making it again, so any points or tip questions you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot!

 

ok i found out that the car is a 1980 with 100k+ miles on it. it's got a 350 engine and it's auto,
the vehicle has big fat tires in the back with hood pins and a mean looking cowl hood. As soon as i can figure out how to get the pics off of my phone I'll post pics.

 

Look for rust. That's the biggest issue with any car that's older and lives in a state where they salt the roads. Get down on your stomach and poke away at the floors from underneath with a kinfe point, or something pointed to see if there are soft spots indicating rust. Look in the trunk too, and feel the carpets front, back to see if they are wet. Take a flashlight to look around under the car for signs of corrosion.

 

If you can wait a couple days I'll put together a bunch of pics of all the trouble spots on my 78. Alot of people been asking and I think my car has all the common problems but looks great from the top.

 

if your not going to restore it look at the frame rails first make sure they are good and solid, look under the trunk for rust, floors, dash corners etc make sure there is no structural damage or baddly rusted. and if it has rear 1/4 spoilers check behind them to see if they are good (1/4's).
