Default Taking off

So I was just thinking, I don't race a whole lot on the street, just when it's like an empty road and everything. I've raced a few mustangs and won, but I had good take offs each time.

I guess my question was, if you had a terrible take off.. would you be able to still beat an average car? Like an intrepid or probe or something like that? or Even a mustang? I haven't been unlucky enough to have a bad one, but I was just wondering. I drive a 98 LS1 with intake and exhaust.

depends on HOW bad it is.... I always have bad starts bc my nittos just wont hold me any more lol, but I can still generally run people down, the trick is to start feathering it as soon as you realize you are spinning. remember, every moment lost at the launch is doubled at the finish line.

True true I guess eh.. haha well It's good to know we have that kind of security if we do happen to mess up. What about something like a grand prix GXP? Those supercharged are supposed to be like 300 or so horse and 323 torque to the crank.. I dunno if I'd be able to run that down haha

about the same power as a LS1, but its fwd, i herd there a ***** to make hook, unless you do a launch from idle, or a really soft launch...

Was at the track yesterday its an 1/8th mile no vht. There was a a GXP running I didnt catch the start but the car ran a 9:10. I have seen stock LS1 cars run in the 9s and high 8s. There were a few newer "muscle" cars at the track, a SRT8 Challenger, and a Shelby GT500 newer mustang and a new Camaro. We ran against the Challenger in time trials it ran a high 8 I believe(I didnt actually see its time its what I heard) the Cobra sounded nice but it just spun all the way down the track it lost to a late 60s roadrunner with a 9:20 somthing dial. The new Camaro didnt run. I have to say that silver color challanger was a really sharp car.

I may be mistaken but the 3.8 GXP is rated around 260-280 and that would be at the crank. They are a high 14 second car in the 1/4. The LS1 is a strong car out of the hole in both the vette and F-body. You should be cutting around 2.0 60 with good tires and no problems.

You also have a great top end. The car loves to pull and pull and pull.
