Default stuck in gear

ive got a 79 camaro with a turbo 350 i believe. i had to adjust the linkage on my tranny and took the pan off. sitting in the pan was a clip or something shaped like an S. all the linkage was loose untill i tightend up the nut that holds linkage on. i put it all back together minus the S clip and now the tranny is stuck in a foward gear. even if you move the shifter. can anyone tell me where this piece goes and what it does? thanks

The S clip is what connects you manual valve body to the shift linkage.
I did not have a pic of my trans, but I found one similar on a jeep website.
Hope you get it working.

Not tryin to kick you in the groin here (too hard ), but weren't you the least bit curious about what that S clip was doing in your pan, and why it was there instead of finding out where it should have been?
