Stuck... again..
hmm, ok... Anyone know how much is would cost roughly to have just the vinyl top removed and the sanding of the top and painting? I can sand and prime myself with the help of friends but if it requires like cutting or bondo i dont trust myself there.
it just peels off pretty much peel it off and if your going to sand it that will take out any left over glue.. do it on a hot day and use a putty knife to slide underneath the vinyl top it should just peel off ... its fairly easy in my opinion
No holes just a few studs, as far as i know of there are about 4 or 5 little nail like studs sticking out of the top of the roof taht the rear piece of trim that follows the back part of the vinyl and yah it looks really sweet once you get rid of the top if you want to take a look at my car

DAAAAAAMN nice car bro! well heres the deal, me and my step dad are gonna go check it out in Seattle... at an import body shop... that the owner owns/works at... we will see if its right for me and runs strong, then we will take "my" Customs guy (family friend) to check it out and see how much it would cost to do all the work himself and then see how much it would cost if i were to remove the vinyl and sand first, then send it to him for the Golden Yellow paint and black stripes. Oh hell Yah! Yellow and BLACK! it just seems to work out so nice on this car! thanks about my car i wish i could have new pics up of it in blue i like the blue better and i did more of the work myself and painted the ENTIRE car myself I am also building a 383 stroker motor for it so iam excited as heck to get that in there and start rippin up the streets!! i also have a 96 RS camaro that i painted kept it stock green color it looks like glass ! Trust me once you buy one seems like you get a bit hooked on restoring especially if you know how to do it yourself! its fun as hell and the best part is going for a cruise at the end of the day!
Lol, well im no mechanic, but ive seen enough and read enough and learned enough to do my fair bit of work.
As far as sanding, with say 4 or 5 people, how much time would it take to cut the vinyl off, and sand the WHOLE car. What precautions should i take, what tools do i need... Any helpful hints?

Definately, If your going to sand that car by hand use a block! they make these things called DuraBlocks and there made for straightning panels buy one and buy a roll of whatever grit paper your going to use, by roll i mean they have literal rolls of like 320 grit that you unroll a bit and stick it to the block its EXTREMELY helpful!! and if theres 4 or 5 of you workin on it it shouldnt take long but if your sanding by hand and dont buy a block do your best to remain even if theres a scratch in the panel and its deep go over it with large strokes back and forth so you dont off set the panel by removing more paint in one area than the next- the durablocks keep you straight the entire way so it wouldnt be a problem but if your going buy D/A then i would say take it easy and feather edge any major scratches - even by doing that you still have a chance of getting a wave in the paintjob and remember keep the D/A flat the entire way and dont use bad paper!!! Time wise i would say it could take 2-3 days if you have 5 people .. it took me all summer because i took it down to baremetal and was working all alone and i didnt know how to do any of it but if you get 4 other guys that have a good idea of how to do it you could cut off all the imprefections in a few days! Heres another tip assign panels to each person in the group it makes it easier because no one is running into someone else and your not both sanding in one place if guy 1 takes the rear quarter on the passenger guy 2 drivers quarter you on a door someone else on a door and someone on the hood you have the 5 Major parts done on the entire car! post some pics once you get the car going i love to see this kinda thing iam going to Car Craft Nationals in Minnesota this coming weekend and i love the muscle cars!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 days in the great sun with hot babes and ground pounding powerful muscle cars!!!!! what more could i ask for!???
ok, what about power sanders? The guys dont REALLY kno what their doing, but they have sanded a car down before to prime it but then they spray painted it with high gloss car paint of some sort (it was a beater Geo Metro) I mean all in all i just want it to a primering stage for repainting.
Check it out htey make a Dual Action sander thats a in a long board style it goes back and forth and up and down and straightens your panels at teh same time its very very handy the reason i suggest doing this is because do you want to paint a car thats goign to look all dented up on a new coat of paint? thats one of the main reasons i re-did my already good to go car there were a ton of minor dents that could have been blocked out easily .. it really pissed me off so i reblocked and did the entire car. the only power sander i know if is a Dual Action or DA sander they come in the oribital 6 in and then theres a larger 9 inch i believe.. so is the plan to take it to baremetal? or just ruff it up and prime it a bit?
