Default Starting Issue

Good morning Gentlemen....

I recently finished up some engine work on my 80Z....including installing a rebuilt quadrajet. It made a huge difference in performance, but since the istall, I've been having what I think is a minor starting issue. When firing her up for the first time of the day.....I have to crank the engine for quite a while, maybe 15-20 seconds before it will catch. After that first start, she fires right up right away. Could it be an electric choke adjustment? Thanks in advance!

Stepping away from the fuel injection way of starting an engine.....you gotta pump the gas pedal to the floor a couple few times before starting.
That sets the choke (provided it's working), and the accelerator pump squirts gas to prime the engine. Experiment to find your magic number of pumps.

With the engine cold in the morning. Turn the key an and push the pedal to the floor, and then release. Open the hood and remove the the air cleaner top. Look inside and observe if the choke plate is closed on the carb. If it is it should start with a couple pumps as mentioned. If it's not closed the choke is out of adjustment.
