starter wiring
ok first off im new to this site and second i have a 1978 camaro with a 350 in it I was trying to get the starter wired when we seen a wire with a fuse on it and we can't figure it out i was wondering if any of you guys knew what it was.
A pick would help. The only thing that goes to the large terminal is the Pos. battery cable. The other ones go to the small terminal. Unless some one added something and used the Battery terminal to draw power. I'm going from memory right now. Maybe someone else will chime in and give a better explanation. Huk humm....VAAAALLLL!!!
There are actually 3 terminals. The large battery terminal, the "S" terminal, and the "R" terminal. The two small terminals are on either side of the battery terminal. One gets constant voltage to the coil when the key is on(R), and the other the signal voltage to crank the starter(S). If you get them swapped the moment you turn the key on the starter will kick in and keep cranking until you turn the key off.
Just get a meter or a 12v. test lamp and turn the key on, then check each of those two wires to see which has 12v. on it. Put that one on the R terminal, and the other on the S terminal. But if your car has electronic ignition than the R terminal isn't used, and both wires should go on the S terminal.
