I wouldn't "rig" stock belts either, but there's lots of old cars that have had late model seats, seat belts, or harnesses added safely. No reason you can't make something work safely, even if it's not factory.
All three of my rides have non stock seat belts installed, and I don't think any of them are unsafe because they aren't in factory holes. The Camaro and my Austin both have harnesses, and my Suburban has Durango seats and seat belts.

its not bad, its still bolted into a hole, just farther back then the intended hole. but when i get my new seats, im going with 4 point harnesses. How are those mounted? On our drag car we have a 5 point and the shoulder straps are bolted on a bar thats ran behind the seats. but i dont want that in the camaro

Just make sure you use something like a two inch washer under the car if your not using the stock hole. Or a 3x3 piece of 1/8" plate would be better. If you don't it could tear right through the floor on impact. Rendering the belt useless in saving you from a glass makeover.

I use the rollbar for my harnesses on the Camaro. On the Austin my harness is bolted through the floor with a 3"x3"x1/4" plate on both sides of the floor to sandwich the floor. Overkill, but I like strong better.
If you don't have a rollbar and you want harnesses, then you'll need to do two things. First you need to use seats that have holes to keep the harnesses routed over your shoulders, then you'll need harness extenders, or special long harness points to ensure the harnesses reach from floor to the shoulders, and down to the latch at your lap.
They make them in individual shoulder straps, or a "Y" strap that needs a single point mount that split to each shoulder. My Camaro is individuals, but the Autin is Y shoulder straps. Here's a picture of my Harwood racing buckets with slots for shoulder, lap, and 5th point. I only ue 4 points on it, but 5 point on my Camaro.

I think it's illegal in NHRA rules to mount the shoulder harnesses to the floor. I think the theory is that you can compress your spine in an accident if the mount is under you. I say think because I'm not positive, I read it on the internet. I can't preach it as gospel without checking.

Of course we're talking NHRA, and if your not drag racing then it really is a moot point.
