Default ??'s about CAR AUDIO

Hey i'm kinda looking at putting some subs into my car but i'm not sure if it can handle it...to be honest i know nothing about car audio...but i'm looking at these
http://www.dualav.com/mobileaudio/bp1204.php
They already come enclosed and would be pretty easy to install in my trunk... my car has a aftermarket JVC stereo cd/fm/am radio with 2 JVC speakers in the door panels and 2 6x9's in the rear window deck...i'm not sure if i need an amp or what??...

i can tell you right now those wont fit because i've seen em and their about 14" tall the trunk is not even close

dont know if you have some sort of blower for the rear window defroster... wish they made a kit so you could paint youre own defroster on...

you my friend should look for a program called win isd and build some of you're own boxes with custom tuning

i would go ported personally as they would give good efficiency without sounding really boomy if properly tuned

in the end you've gotta get out the tape measure and Measure the space , another thing yo do is maybe throw a mock up of the box you want to use out of cardboard to see if you can get it into the space without tearing the whole car apart.... could come in handy keeping your gear in the car...( i didint do this when i built a box anf forgot the trunk area ontop slopes down a bit so i couldn't get it into the car)

iam thinking some of those Kicker single boxes would work or some kind of truck box style enclosure as they are shallow

another option would be some bazokka Bass Tubes... probably 2 small ones would fit without issue

the kicker truck box...

hah yea sorry i completely forgot about if they would fit or not...as for the custom box idea i could probably do that...as far as amps go i would probably need one right? is there a big difference in sound quality between 10" subs and 12" because i was originally looking at 12" but realizing now that probably wont fit could go with 10" and still get the same amount of bass??..

10's will do a TON of justice in a Camaro. I have 10's and I set off car alarms every day lol. I have Kicker CVR's with a Power Acoustic Gothic series 2000 watt amp. It absolutely pounds! This site is great for really good deals on car audio. I bought my stuff from them.

And here's links to the stuff I have. It's decently cheap and is very loud with good sound quality.

I have to say I prefer 10s to 12s. 10s are tighter with more of a punch. letting you play a wider variety of music. 12s will boom but distort rock/metal too much for my liking.

I agree with the sound. 12's have more load bass and vibrations. You feel 10's in your chest.

Fit? In what... You could get 2 15's in a 2nd gen Camaro.
Do you need an amp? Seriously? Um yes.
There isnt a deck on the market that can push a real sub.

You need to go to car toys and or best buy and start asking questions.
Learn what a single voice coil is and what a dual voice coil is.
The right 10" dual voice coil single ohm sub will kill two 12's and make your chest hurt. Then learn about wiring in series vrs parallel. Isnt hard. Fosgate has wiring diagrams on there site. The trick to a nice stereo is in the details.

If you want simple get a Fosgate P2D10 that is a Dual Voice coil 10" sub. Then just pick up a nice fosgate amp from a pawn shop. The sub will come with the correct dimensions for the box. I am running one with a 250watt fosgate amp. Only want one sub because of weight.

Have 3-15's in the basement with a fosgate 8004 and a 10001 about to go into an eclipse. Hoping they don't break the back window. The actual pushed the crumple zones out on my cobalt. Sold the car because the sterio was tearing it up. Bought it brand new. The dealership thought it was really cool but wouldn't warranty it.

If you want to tell me what you are looking at before you buy it, I can give you my recommendations. I am not very up on the new stuff. But I use to compete and have built 1000's of systems.

You would be very happy with a nice dual voice coil 10 and a good fosgate amp.

thanks gfrench...im only 16 so i have never dealt with any car audio before but i really like music and want good sound quality...
mostly listen to hip hop and rock so i want bass that you will feel in your chest but not so much to knock the dents out of my car lol...
as for fit i don't want something that will take up the whole trunk i was thinking i could build two boxes to fit in the two sides behind the rear wheels but like you said i could get the same sound out of just one it could save some time and money

all i want is the best "boom for my buck" cause i like having things that are just a little bit better than everyone elses haha... eg. i drive a camaro when everyone else drives a mustang

+ on pawn shop systems. I got my JL w6s there years ago plus a 1 Fararad cap and small but powerful MTX 2160amp. You can get anything in a trunk, just because its 12" tall doesn't mean the subs have to stand straight up. This is the reason for wedge shaped boxes, they roll the angle back.

My vote, 3 10" Fosgates I'm not sure whats available from them right now. But I do know there made right down the road in Grand Rapids. Made in the USA. If money is not a issue, JL Audio all the way-MB quarts for highs and mids. Its been along time since i was in the game so to speak.
