I didn't have a chair available. I just sat down on the driveway to put them together. Now I got bleeding hands and a sore butt. I guess I should be thankful that it's not the other way around. But,,,the tuff part's done. I haven't built a motor from the ground up in 20 yrs. Dang i forgot ab out the little stuff. lol

I know it's too late now, but I'm a big fan of kevlar work gloves myself! I buy the cheap ones at Home Depot that have any kind of cut rating. Those without are OK, but even those with a low number cut rating are far superior.
Took some getting used to, but I wear them for everything but tiny intricate work now and my hands are in much better shape for it! It also makes cleanup easier at the end of the day, as they don't stop all the dirt and grease, but they sure stop most of it!

I'm gonna have to look into that. (I'm in HF at least once a week), Cleanup is my biggest pain. Wife keeps the house spotless, and can't stand greasy finger prints.

I hit the bathroom as soon as I hit the door, the woman is very *****y when it comes to my greasey stuff.

Default Need some advice

Ok, I finished cleaning up my new rear end cosmetically. While in the middle of this, I learned it's not a 3:42 posi from a camaro, it's a pontiac 3:23 posi (firebird/Trans Am, I presume), I can live with that, everything looks like it'll bolt right up.
My issue is this, the hubs on the 3:23 are rusted soooooo bad. I can't get anything to break loose on them i.e. brake lines/brake bleeders (one of them is broken off).?I'm thinking of taking the axle's out of both of them and swapping the hubs(or whatever they are called, the things that mate the brakes to the axle housing) . The hub on the rear end I pulled out of my Z is in much better shape. I tested the couplings on the brake lines/bleeders, they come right off not to mention that the slave cylinders are in much better shape and there's not nearly as much crap inside the brake drums.
I figure while I'm in there I can replace the axle seals, and repack the bearings.
I really don't want to try to swap the gears due to the fact that I'm pretty sure I'd screw that up.
Does this sound like a crazy idea? What would you all do

There called backing plates. If they're as bad as you say swap them. Up here they rust quite a bit and no longer hold the wheel cylinder in place or the small springs that hold the pads down for that matter.

Backing plates...thanks. I should have looked it up, the book's right here, but was being lazy. I apprecaite the advice, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't way off base. I guess that'll be today's project.

Default Rear Shock mounts

Do the shock mounts in the rear both face the same way or are they opposite?. The one I pulled from the car had them facing the same way, but the rear end I bought complete had one pointed to the front and one toward the rear. I looked in my haynes manual, but couldn't find a picture to go from.

I would have to look but, they are staggered some how. One in front one in back I believe. It is common for people to rework them to get wider tires on. (I think)
