Picking up a 79, engine questions
SickSickSick> Any engine can be made boss with enough money, work and know how put into it.
And saying that my 350 was rated 250hp stock off the line, I'm already making 100 more than the 150 stock you're talking about. So yeah, take that! Ha!
Btw, one of the companies I was looking at working for is in Texas. Do you like living there? How long have you lived there?

Texas is one if not the richest southern state. it's awhole other world. i'm a transplanted Texan but, Texas is my home now. once you make it through a hurricane you will never leave. LMAO. Sick
Ha ha, Hurricanes... Come live on the East Coast such as Savannah, GA; Jacksonville, NC; etc., and then we'll talk Hurricanes. I've lived in the Southeast for the majority of my life. I like it a lot better than the North. Living in North Carolina is too cold for me and it's 75 degrees outside right now! Ha ha.
O.K. going back on topic....
Sick> So if you were to give him advice for keeping the 305 what would be your first things to do? I've never had a 305, just three 350's so my experience is limited to those and 351 Clevelands and Windsors. All my cars hover around the 350 displacement except the few four cylinders and six cylinders I've owned.

But from what you say that doesn't matter since this is a 74 engine and the codes aren't worth a damn anymore. I remember that Berry guy saying it in those posts that you linked too also if I remember it correctly.
Do you know what the other numbers are for by chance?

you 350 mongers make me want to puke LMAO. what happened to good ole 305 camaro pride? if you happen to know alittle about engines, the 305 can be a stimulating build. most basic early 80's models had 150 stock HP. with a little machine work and some quality parts, that number is easily doubled. increasing the HP on a 305? acouple thousand dollars ... smoking a 350 owner with a 305? Priceless. Sick

there was never any "305 pride". those engines were trash from the factory. if you take even money and put it into both engines, the 350 will destroy the 305 everytime. even the weakest 350s start off with more HP and torque than the 305s

What was ao bad about em though? I see it on here all the time that 305s are crappy.
Well, the kid I am buying it from swears the guy he got it from told him it was a 350 with a turbo 400 behind it. I am guessing based on the vin it was a 305. I will just have to wait and see when I get to bring it home.
Its not thatitis a terrable engine it is just that the stroke is the same as the 350 but the bore is smaller and the 350 is just bigger. You can build both for the same cost the 350 maybe a little cheaper.I say forget them both and go to a 400....
