i'm finally got off my butt and started to remove the old nasty tar sound prooffing,and it coming off pretty easy with my air chisle but there is still the residue on the floor,what can i use to get it off,and what kind of paint would you guys use on your floor pans. i plan on putting new sound proofing in the summer time after the rain quites filling my car up with water. and also after 35 years there is no sign of rust in my floors at all yay.

 

wow, no rust. rare. I found that kerosene gets the tar off well, its kind of flamable, so ventilate.

 

ok i wil give that a try,any ideas on a good coating for the floor a good rust protection that can last a couple of years, intell i have enough money to have it put on a Rotisserie and have the the interior and trunk and the under body coated with rhino coating.

 

Oh and i dont mean no rust in the car at all just not in the floor lol,just a little bit in the rear quaters but it dosent matter really cause both panals have to be replaced cause of body damage.but that is the only rust i have found so FAR lol.g o d i hope that is all there is.

 

I wouldnt be surprised if you find more. I would like to rino line my undercarriage. I would think a good rust proofing paint, like por15 would be fine.

 

Do not use POR 15 if you plan on trying to remove it later. The major downfall is that it does not come off to easy. That means if down the road you want to do some more work on a part that is coated, it is a *****. Same rule goes for Rhino Liner. If you use either one, make sure your prep work is perfect.

If you want a temporary coating on the floor use an epoxy primer or chassis black paint.

BTW: I was told that oven cleaner works great on undercoat type materials. Use the cold oven formula.

 

those paints you reckamended (sp) how willthey hold up if a puddle of water sits on it for a long period of time and will it scratch easy or will it hold up pretty good.and will that dyno mat stuff stick to it well.

Both will hold up against water very well.The epoxy primer (we use PPG mp170, two coats) is a good choice if you plan on doing more work at a later date. It will sand off fairly easily of if you want to topcoat it you can just scuff sand it and spray. The chassis black (ours is SEM 38101 semi gloss) gives great protection with either two heavy coats or three medium coats. I have had good luck getting Dynamat to stick to both
