Here you go. I am sure you could get more for your car then they are asking for this.

I've got some real concerns about building a high torque, hi HP engine project on a T-top car! You will most certainly develope leaky T-tops! T-tops just don't make for a very ridgid body, and even with good frame connectors you may still develope leaks.
You may need frame connectors and a roll cage to strengthen everything!
do you think a 500hp build would be too much for the car? how much torque/power do you think it can take if we only did the frame connectors and never ran DRs or slicks. I would imagine the inability of getting that torque to the ground through the use of just normal street tires would limit stresses to the frame.
There isnt any way around this structural issue short of a roll cage, given that it will be a street car and not a 1/4 mile car?

Perhaps we should just step it down to a 396" or a 383" build? We kind of wanted the romance (for lack of a better word) of a BBC, but if it's completely useless on our budget ($10k maximum..and i mean MAXIMUM), we may just build the stocker up to a 396 and call it a day.

thanks for the link Gorn, but we already purchased this car and will probably just be using it. Also, the link is more of a drag race only car. We're looking to build a street-able car that can still pack a damn mean punch if some mustang cobra or similar car comes to challenge us.

I have to thank you both again for the responses. Definitely good stuff to know.

It's not so much a matter of cubic inches, but more a case of torque and HP! If you stay under 400HP, and about the same torque, and also add subframe connectors, and don't run slicks, and etc..... maybe you wont break the body. But then again, what if you go through all that and still stress the body?
I'd sure think twice about doing much more than a mild build with a T-top car!

I see. Do you think it would be okay if we put a cage in the car then? What would we need to do to safely run a 500whp/wtrq build on a T top car?

If you put a 6 or 8 pt. rollcage in just about any car (even a convertible!) it would stiffen everything up enough to be fine. A 4 pt. wont do the job, as it wouldn't tie into both crossmembers. 8 pt. would really be the best, and would definitely hold together with 500 hp, if built properly.

sounds good. We'll definitely consider it. I dont suppose theres a way to get enough chassis strength for 500hp without a cage? Maybe a lot of frame connectors, sub-frame connectors, anything else (ladder frame something comes to mind...not sure). I'm just trying to see all my options. My friend is kind of against the cage idea, as he wants the interior to look stock, but if its the only option, and i let him know this, i think he will go ahead with it.
