I used a 4" high so when the hood is closed about 1" of the filter is up in the scoop.
That's exactly what I need, except for the height. I went to Summit and see they also sell them in a 3"(AFE Power 18-31403) and I think I can get a 3" under there. I'll do some measurements (with plastic adjustable stick I made) from the top of the carb. If I can get the 3" under there the tapered construction should give me all the clearance to miss the hood opening!
Do you know if it's a dropped base aircleaner? If not I can probably use my dropped base in conjunction with the 3" element. Are they washable, and reuseable like the K&N?
Thanks JR!

Yes, they are washable just like K & N. The oil from AFE is blue, if you like red then get the K & N oil. The filter I got did NOT come with a base. I cannot remember what style I used. I think it is a dropped base. Wish I could look at it now but the Cam is in storage. Damn Minnesota winters!

Thanks! My air cleaner lower is a dropped unit, so that should work well once I've got a top piece with that smaller taper.
Can't imagine not getting an occasional day to drive the Camaro! Sorry for your winter loss!

Hope you get it to work, get 'er done and drive some winter miles for me. While you are cruisin watch for a certain black Mustang, lowered and lookin mean. Kick his butt for me in the quarter and tell him it's from his little brother in the great white north, he is also in Portland. (Forgive him for being Ford, he is the black sheep of the family!)

Contacted Summit today to ask about the base, and as suspected they don't come with a base, so I'll use my dropped base with the element. My condolences for the loved one who went astray. We've been pretty diehard Chevy guys in our family, but no telling what my sisters will drive! No accounting for their taste in cars.
