My tach doesn't work right!!

It might sound crazy but is the tach actually connected to the coil?
If you have a regular ignition (Non GM/HEI) Then connect (typically a green wire) it to the negative side of the coil. Otherwise there is a designated tach terminal for GM/HEI distributors or other electronic ignitions (MSD).
Check the wire, see that it's connected and doesnt have any breaks and go from there.

Yeah, I think it's all plugged in right. In the distributer, right?? Any other reasons why?
When the car is off, the tach goes to I think about 1k, but drops when it turns on? So, I dunno, I need you smart guys here to help me troubleshoot this!
