Default My new engine!

I went to the machine shop today and picked up my fresh block bored .30 over. I got a new crank, cam, berrings, lifters, gaskets, intake, carb rebuild, and more. I am so excited. it cost me around 800 so far but I have to pay for the timing chain and gears, pistons, and others. This will be sweet in my 81 camaro when I swap it for the 331ci 6 banger. I am pleased with my car. it is coming along. I should send pics but the car is covered with snow since my mother obviously dosent understand the value of my camaro to me. This is such a fun project but it is deffinatley costly. I am dead broke now but my camaro is happy. I now have about 2500 in it. It is getting there. The engine came from my bros firebird. That was also a 350 swap. I parted the car for him and for my services, I got the engine, tranny, carb, money and headers, and a rust free gas tank. It was pretty sweet. thanks for your help with all of my car problems. The people helping me with this engine say it should put out around 350hp when its all done. I would like that.

Good luck with your project. Take your time and put it together right, don't be in a hurry and keep all the parts clean. It should be a good runner and really wake up your car.

I will take my time. My shop teacher and I will work on it and keep it clean. My uncles think that the 30 over is too much and will make it run poorly. What do you think. Thanks

Well, if it is bored 30 over, then it will need 30 over pistons, otherwise it will have way too much clearance and the rings won't last much. Otherwise, if everything is matcdhed up it will run just fine.

30 over is a maybe -- maybe -- too muchh on a Gen III aluminum block engine but on an 81 its just about normal. 30 thousandths is generally a rather conservative bore - I've done 50 and 60 thousands myself (and regetted one 60 thousandth bore): but 30/1000th? Never had a regrett or a problem on an iron block. Of course, you do need new pistons, but . . .

Yeah, I bought all new parts and the machinest that did my engine got me all of the parts. They are great street strip parts. The engine is not from a 81 but a little later. I think a 86 or so. It is a 4 bolt main. It is a gm block but I am not sure what it is from. It is cast iorn and so are the heads. I just dont want to regret my decision. Thanks for all of the help.
