well its pissing me off cause i cant figure out whats wrong. So i was driving home from a friends house one day and it went to hit the gas and it started revving really high. then i kept driving and it wouldnt shift out of first gear. so now in the morning it shifts and after i havent been driving it for a while it shifts but when it warms up it either wont shift or it will shift but when i take my foot off of the gas and then try to re gas it it will just rev really high like its in neutral or in first gear or something. So i have been told it could be the torque converter or the shift linkage cause when i shift into drive and stuff it wiggles around until it clicks in. and also when i go in reverse it kinda sounds like something is grinding to which is weird. But i dunno what it could be the transmission or the stuff i said earlier. i dunno HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

first check fluid level and while at it look at the color. if still clean red color ok if brownish it needs changin along with the filter. should change trans fluid and filter every 50 to 60k miles. then check your tv cable to make sure its not busted. that will be a good start.

How does it do when you shift it manually into 1-2-3? If the issue is the same, then it's not a vacuum line, or modulator. Low fluid, or just plain worn out clutches.

The reason I said modulator is because when I had a similar problem with when my line came off. With just my 2300 stall it would almost die if I wasn't pushing down the gas until my RPM's caught up to the stall. So I was turning high RPM's with no go and then all of the sudden it was like BAM and go. It wouldn't ever shift out of first either. Hooked it back up and it ran fine.

Manually shifting the gears isn't going to instantly put the trans in that gear, unless you have a manual valve body. The trans will upshift when it's good and ready, and upshifts are controlled by the vacuum modulator. When a trans isn't upshifting like it should, the modulator, as well as both vacuum connections would be the first place to look.
