Making a '79 Emissions-Legal in California.......HELP!!!!!!
#12
I personally would sell the Camaro in Florida and look into buying another when you get to Ca. Then you will be certain it passes all requirements, and save money too. I doubt you could come out cheaper doing all the work to your's vs. buying one with the money you get for your's, plus not having to drive or ship it there.

Have you checked the laws? A lot of states don't sweat the emissions too much on a 30yr old car. I realize we are talking about California, but maybe you're getting worried about something that won't really matter. There's plenty of cars running around without emissions equip out there (i've seen 'em). Just my .02, but check on emission requirements for antique cars.

Thanks 77nomad :)
Thanks for the good advice 77nomad. nj85z28 is right about CA law being picky, but it looks like I CAN do a swap if the motor is from a newer vehicle of the same type (can't be older) and the emissions equipment for that motor is transferred over too.
BTW, the "judgmental" comment was for 1971BB427, who just said he's rather slit his throat.

California sucks i use to live there.
if u put a new motor in you get a placard on your door frame saying what was transfered in. you just have to get it checked out at a state smog place or something. someone on FBO had a V6 firebird they put a LS1 in and got the 2000 Trans am placard on there 98 firebird 3.8 so it became legit. you get a LS1 in whatever you have and pass it its golden
