ORIGINAL: daltons 1980any ideas?? thx
Yeah, pull the dip stick out and check to see if the oil has a milky white color. If it does, then you know where the water is going and its most likely a gasket.
If the oil is ok, I'd try the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump.
All I can think of off the top of my head.....

ok thx...i kno the oil is good..but when i first bough the car milky oil was the reason for a whole rebuild.....ill look at the pump tomarrow
its also a possibility that the head gasket could worn, also that same thing happened to my friends el camino, it turned out that the cylinder wall in the number 3 cylinder had a very small but quite long microscopic crack in it, and it used to just leak into the oil, at first it seemed kinda wierd because it didn't show up, but we let it sit for a little while and there it was, we found that the oil was like 4 quarts to high and the water was empty, sometimes, i'm not sure how it works but you'll run the car and as its leaking in, it tends to burn instead of seeping into the oil pan, do you notice any white smoke coming out of the exhaust?
nope there was no white smoke.and we just rebuilt the motor and went over the heads and block and all.also it seems to like come out of the overflow alot when i shut the car off.right now i have a hose with a soda bottle catching all the overflow
your overflow might be cracked, good chance of that, same thing happened with my moms taurus, we had no idea where it was coming from until i did a pressure test and the crack bursted, you might get away with just replacing the overflow and you'll be ready to go.
