With most aftermarket companies you must change the master cylinder. If you do not there will be residual pressure and calipers will drag and heat up. If you want to change your car with over-the-counter parts you first need to get brackets. I bought a pair from a place called Steel-Tech Solutions. For $90 they came powder-coated and will bolt on to either 10 or 12 bolt rears. Then get calipers for an 86 Cadillac Seville, these have the return spring in them so your stock master will work with them. They can be bought with all the E-brake hardware on them, cost with core is around $200. Rotors are cheap at about $35 each and are for '81 Trans Am. It is correct that the E-brake cable will be too short, replace with Trans Am parts. It is best to replace the rubber hoses on the car when you do this swap, replace them with stainless steel braid lines for best results.
If anyone is interested, I have a set of rotors, calipers and brackets I will sell for $325 plus shipping. I was going to change mine to rear disc but in the end didn't want to give up my plans of keeping the Z28 wheels I had built to 10 inch wide. The calipers would not clear the wheels since they are only 15 inch diameter and have severe backspace.
ps. If you are in western WI or east-central MN I can work something out to get them to you (no shipping).

JRs72RS> I think CCP just came out with a 11 inch caliper/rotor set for those that want to keep the stock size rims but have a nice upgrade. I think they run about 400 - 500 bucks... In fact I think it was the article I mentioned earlier in the Camaro Performers magazine. They look pretty sharp and I think it comes with the master cylinder as part of the kit. Looking at the magazine now and it says the kit was 599. Upgrading the caliper finish to powdercoating finish was fifty bucks extra and then the rotors to zinc washed for seventy-five bucks.

If you are looking for more stopping power, but not necessarily the hassle of rear disc conversion, you might do a much simpler conversion. I went to the larger Impala drums, which was extremely simple, with just a changeof backing plates, drums and shoes. I actually found an old Chevey Impala and got everything off the axle for under $100. Makes a huge difference in stopping power, and even works with 14" stock wheels.
