I've seen those at places like Summit, flebay, and other resto supply places. I seriousy considered going to the hardware store, buying a couple of three dollar springs, and reselling them as glass hood springs for a tidy profit. It's all in what you name it...that alone makes them worth more.

 

i had a similar issue with valve cover bolts, i ended up paying $1.90 @ Canadian Tire for all 8 instead of $13 for 4 at Jegs or Summit.

 

I know what you mean. I work a teir one supplier to Detriot and most of the Japs, and Volkswagen now. My point is the studs for the rear deck spoiler are constanly being asked about on other forums like they quit making them years ago or something. Well at work we paint and assemble door handles and a few trim peices for various models. Theris a line that assembles a trim bar for GM and we get these studs by the pallet. Sometimes I want to grab a handful and just start mailing them to people. That would be honest though so I don't. I did put one of the new capless fuel doors for the Ford Fusion in my tool box though. Paint defect though. I wanted to mount it in the bed of my SWB Chevy but that truck is dads now. Enough from me with no real point.

 

Yeah, i'd use some lug nuts just to be safe, but this has been the best idea i've seen thus far

 

How about recommendations on what brand of lube you use on the hinges themself? I've tried some different brands but still seems stiff on opening and now my passenger side needs a little help going all the way down when closed. I've double checked the four adjusters, so any additional hood/hinge suggestions are welcomed.

Maybe I'll just get a fiberglass hood and do hood pins, and screw those stupid hinges!

 

I've got some molylube that seems like it would do the job on that. Not sure though, what about PB Blaster?

 

I use Kroil on just about everything that I want to be really slippery. I nearly bent my new hood when I installed it because I didn't realise my hinges were getting dry! The old stock hood was so heavy it didn't matter.
I sprayed some Kroil on the pivot points and now I have to be careful not to slam it when I close it!

 

^ What the hell is Kroil? I never hoid of it, nor seen it around these parts.
And OneShoe, you might want to think good and hard about going with a pin on hood.
You need to be careful when trying to take it off by yourself, so you don't oops and scratch something important.
And the pin on hoods are a lot lighter too, so hang on to it if it's a very windy day.

Kroil is the best lubricant I've ever used! Not as cheap as most others, but it will take parts that feel rough and smooth them out like no other lube I've seen. According to their ads it will creep into clearances as small as one millionth of an inch! Great stuff!
