My 78 camaro has the orginal 2.41 gears in it. I have a TH350 trans and am wanting to go to 3.42 posi gears. I have run across 2 rearends. One is 3.08 posi, and the other is 3.42 open, each is around $400. Which would be the better way to go? Or would it be better to just rebuild mine.

What the cars primary function? big block or small block? 3.08's will give you better mileage. 3.42's better acceleration. Add an overdrive to the 3.42's and you get the best of both worlds. The posi would be nice to have and, being the same series carrier, you can go up to 3.42's if the 3.08's aren't enough.
