Some later starters (and gear reduction starters) take shorter bolts. It sounds like you simply need shorter bolts to make the new starter work. Be sure to get the correct shoulder bolts so it aligns the starter too! That may be part of the problem if someone didn't use the correct starter bolts.

 

the video is taking a while but it shows the flywheel and starter and when i hit the starter it doesnt turn the flywheel now
