new member here so i hope i dont wear out my welcome with to many questions.

i just went out and bought an 81 z-28. my problem-all the dash lights work, speedo works but nothing else. tach sits at 4500 and the rest are just all the way over. the wires under the dash are pretty haggled up. do they make a under dash wire harness? if so is it a pretty straight forward swap and how would i know if i was ordering the right one?

 

When you say all the way over, do you mean pegged?

I havent seen a "direct replacement" for your application and I am not exactly sure how different the wiring harness would be from the 70-73 kit but there are two companies that make universal GM kits that would work just the same. I figure it's cheap fire insurance and will prevent a lot of headaches in the future. Believe me I know.

If you can't spare the cash right now, get your wiring diagrams out and start spending some time underneath the dash. Let us know what you decide to do.

 

will do. would the dash out of a 78 fit into a 81? i like the dash better in my 78 and im actually going to use it as a donor car for my 81. i was wondering if you guys think it would be a pretty easy swap or if it would be to much trouble
