Default freeze out plugs

hey guys, quick question...

I took my engine out to freshen it up, new gaskets and everything and paint, but my question is. should i place the new freeze out plugs i got in first and then paint? or paint first than put the plugs in. or take the plugs out. stuff the holes with rags and then paint? just a question i was curious about. thanks guys- Jon

Really doesn't matter which you do first. I usually install and then paint, just so they blend in. I use Permatex gasket sealer, but not the RTV type, just the plain old fashion hardening type.

Yeah, the Permatex is good.

Here's a pic of mine when it was out and I did the paint with the holes blocked. That way the brass stood out a bit more.

u did clean the sufaces on the inside the holes before installing right? u may want to clean the paint off the gasket surfaces for the water pump with some emery cloth. i like the brass showing too. nice job.

Yeah, those pics are over a year old. Everything was cleaned with gasoline to cut the paint since it hadn't cured yet since it required the engine's running heat to do that. Then everything was thoroughly gone over to make sure the surfaces were prepped for sealants/gaskets/etc.
