floor pan problems!!!!!
Your the guy that did the 77 to 73 right? Exellent work by the way. Are you talking about the whole pan or just patches? I have the same problem kind of. I sold my 78 as a roller about four years ago not long after I painted it I just bought it back a couple weeks ago. The guy I sold it to let it sit out side with a leaky sun roof. So now I go to put new carpet in it and hey there is my header collector. Both sides. So to answer your question. I'm staying as far away from the rockers as possable. I might even borrow a couple welding blankets from work.
THANKS 77----well i am starting to think patches more than the whole thing--its not real bad,i was gonna leave it,but when underneath fixing a tranny seal--i noticed that it was alittle worse than i had thought, mainly in the front passenger side were i think the heater core leaked and stood on the carpet for who knows how long many years ago--but anyway, just getting an opinion or 2---thanks
If you've got headers then the exhaust shouldn't be an issue. Just drop the exhaust from the collector and let it sag down. Paint shouldn't be an issue either, as it wont get near paint unless you start welding on rocker panels.
Just keep it to rusted out metal, and don't go any farther than you need to get to good steel. All welding will be done from above, and grinding done both sides, so you need room to grind below. Of course painting with POR15 will need clear space, but you can roll or brush it on, so not much room needed.
