which engine to get for my '81 camaro?
for the base all forged 383 plus 3 yr warranty and shipping its 4600, for the complete turn key with holly 770crm carb, alum water pump, powermaster 80 amp alt, powermaster permanent magnet gear reduction starter and bandit chrome pulleys its 6000, do you think its worth getting the true turn key package for that price?

No reason to go with an 80 a. alternator, unless you've got lots of power accesories now. The rest is up to you if you want to spend that extra, or reuse what you have. Personally I'd reuse whatever I could, but I would go with a new starter. You can pick up a good gear reduction starter for around $150, and save the rest of your money for misc. other needs.
well if i didn't add all of the other stuff, i would need a new carb and a new starter..well i have power steering and brakes and my sound system, does that qualify for the 80amp alt?
or should i just leave it as the base engine and just add my own carb, starter and convert to serpentine pulleys?

I agree, besides I'd rather have a double pumper carb than that Holley 770.
i decided to not get the pulleys, alt or carb with it and will just add those as i go and just install the engine in my camaro..its only 5100 for the all forged 383, alum water pump, starter, 3 yr warranty and shipping
does a serpentine set up really add like 10hp like they claim?

No, a serpentine setup wont add HP. I think your final deision is the best. Don't try to make it too complete, as they have a lot of labor and markup in those additions. Plus you get some things like that carb that wont produce as much HP as a better 780 double pumper would.
It's not the serpentine itself that is the h.p. claim, it's the underdrive characteristics that is supposed to add. But you can do that with a v-belt setup too. Also keep in mind that it slows down your alternator and water pump (which is where the hp gain is supposed to come from). I converted my 69 over to serpentine, which is just replacement pulleys keeping the rotation stock. I mainly did that so I wouldn't have any v-belt zinging issues once the engine hit 6+ grand.

Ditto that.
well i got an email from the guy with the 383 and he stopped using paypal because of there attitude and fees. so he will only accept money orders or checks and im not gonna use either with an online purchase..figures this happens when i finally decide on an engine lol
so i found this next best option and seems like a good deal, its a 454 with 500hp and turn key even comes with serpentine pulleys and an alternator, 1 yr warranty and free shipping..not sure the compression or if the pistons, rods and crank are forged but i send him an email asking
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
what do you think?

here's what the guy said back:
The engine is a custom build on all of our turn key applications. We custom build it the way you want it then dyno test and tune it.The HP will be 500 or more most likely 515-520 and TQ will be 550-585.Every motor does not come out exactly the same but real close.Cam specs are .574-.578 lift 284-296 duration with 10:1 compression.Crank is eagle cast steel w/ forged rods and forged SRP or speed pro pistons your choice. You can upgrade to GM forged steel crank for 300.00.Air gap intake would add 75.00.Pulleys are billit specialties polished and alt is Chrome 100 amp 10SI from a local supplier here they make them and I have no problems with them but they are warranted also.Without the plugs, wires and Dist would save 210.00 but i would need yours sent for the dyno session and tune.Warranty is attached.Hope this answers you questions if it does not let me know I will be happy to answer them.We also video the final dyno pull.
it seems like an awesome deal!
but it is with fully reworked GM cast heads though..it would be an extra 850 for comp alum heads. i know they would save alot of weight but do you think it would be worth paying the extra 850 for them? it would make the total like 7300..thats a little more than i wanna pay but if there worth it and will be durable than mise well now cuz i will never buy another engine for it lol
