Hey I found the perfect engine for you on Craigslist! Looks pretty nice and still in the car, so you can listen to it first! Tons of chrome, and super cheap! Better get it fast! Is 253 area code in Wa.?

oh man thats a great deal! i wonder how much hp it has i'll call him

oh and i meant the 454 has 224/232 duration @ 0.50 280/292 total duration 568/576 lift

does the 383 sound streetable at all?
(lift 488 510 DUR 303 313 and 10:1cr)

At the price, who cares how much HP? If it's just the little 275HP it's a screaming bargain, but I bet it's more. No way to touch anything that nice, (and running) for twice the price. Don't give anyone any money until it's sitting in the back of your truck! If you've got a dry plce to work drop me an email and I'll help you swap it into your Camaro. I've got a cherry picker.

i want more than 300hp though so even though this a good deal i'm gonna have to pass :/ but you can still help me swap in the engine im gonna get if you want that would be awesome too

what do you think of the 454 and 383's cam duration and lifts?

because the 383 is like half as much with around the same hp as the 454, not much difference in hp or tq according to his dyno program and they both have around 10:1 cr. i know its not just bout comparing the hp and tq because the 383 will probably be more stressed to make around the same power as the 454..but at the same time i hate spending twice as much for almost the same power levels lol

For the money the 383 sounds like a better choice. Not just because of the base cost, but also because you're going froma SBC to a SBC, so all your accessory brackets and exhaust will bolt right up.
In your position I too would choose the SBC 383.

yeah it does seem like a better deal..even the builder said that if it was him, he would pick the 383 since its not that big of a difference in power and lighter..the 383 also has alum heads and forged internals...would you pick it over your 427 if you had the choice? lol should i be worried about the stress on the 383 to make that power too?

I wouldn't give up my 427 for anything.

i hope the 383 really does have that much torque even though i've never seen such a big gap in the torque and hp on a 383 before. they usually have around the same hp and tq..

Nope. Not even for a 502 straight across. There's just a certain number of early 427 big blocks, and I like the power it has, and the performance. There's lots of engines that make more HP, and more torque, but I like where this one is, and I built it to exactly the temperment I wanted.
