Don't worry about paying $600 for a dyno run, unless they're tuning for optimum power at the same time; dyno tuning.
Agreed, probably not necessary unless you are racing and looking for every last once of power or you're having poor running conditions and the carb has got to be dynotuned to find/cure the problem.
I had my Harley dyno tuned but it had pretty extensive work done (high compression big bore kit, ported heads,570 lift cams, bigger carb etc.) and needed it to run like it should.
I also had the engine break in done on the dyno so it was ready to go and in optimal tune when I got it back.

Truth is dynos never get that exact, you could do a dynotune on your car and have it back on the dyno the next day or on a different dyno and get quite different results or even the same day on the same unit.
It's a great tuning tool but not an exact science, your motor will react differently with a change in temperature and humidity,a different batch of gas and many other factors so whatever the dyno run indicates is only approximate hp & tq.

ok well then maybe i wont bother with the dyno..so its like 6k shipped with engine, 3 yr warranty and shipping

they also have a 383 that he claims does 465hp and 518tq and its cheap, only like 3500 but the big block will be more streetable since its not being pushed as much as the 383

Makes that 383 look pretty attractive 'eh

Bolts right in with all the stuff you have, might still need a bigger carb but all the rest will fit.

You better get to savin', so when you've got enough money you can make a big decision!
Might want to consider heading over to Clark College's automotive shop and taking a few of those classes while you're there. That could save you a bunch of money if you leanred to build your old engine, instead of buying any of these!
I think my complete rebuild on the .427 was around $1300 total, including boring it .040", turning the crank, sizing the rods, align boring the mains, balancing the rotating assembly, rebuilding the heads, and all the new engine parts. Of course that was 9 yrs. ago, but I see the engine kits are still only about $50 more than I paid back then.
I think a guy could still build a 350 engine for well under $2,000 that would be one heck of a street ride, if he already had a good block to start with.

Oh, and just to complicate your decision even more! Here's a 383 stroker, dyno'd at Summit for $3300! Complete with distributor and carb!

yeah i do love em! but the price of a 383 is tempting lol i mean i could have a 383 with 460hp and 518tq but with a more radical cam of 240 @ .050 and 10:1 cr but it wont be as streetable as the 454

and i would love to take classes at clark but as a senior full time biology major and working part time i sadly dont have any time. if i could go back i would of done some of the auto classes when i was in high school but maybe someday i will be able to take some
