Electrical draw??
Hi all Im a new guy here and I wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I have a 70 RS/SS I just got about 2 weeks ago and all was great , but all of the sudden I have a draw on the battery . Over night it goes dead. I replaced the battery cuz it wouldnt hold a charge and then the alternater because if i pulled the wires off the draw went away.
But That didnt do it either , the draw is still there. I disconnected the regulator and the draw is still there. My feeling it is under the hood some wear the light are not on nor is the key turned on. I know there will be some draw from the radio memory. the other day I noticed the elec fan was running and the car was not hot at all. I unpluged the fan and draw is still there. I hate just throwing money at it. My thoughts are the only things that might draw with out the ignition being on is cable to starter , the headlights the alternator and maybe to the coil. has hei distributer. Any Ideas ???
Thanks
Gary

Put an Ammeter in series with one of the battery cables and note the draw with everything turned off. Remove a fuse at the time while watching the meter, when the reading drops, you found the bad circuit. Do the same wit all the fusible links, and cable going to the starter and alternator.
you think that there could be a draw on the battery in areas that go through the ignition switch. right now the drain is with the key off and out of the ignition. when the car is running it at an idle it seems okay but bring up the rpm and it over charges. I disconnected the regulator and the drain is there , I also disconnected the horn relay and the drain is there. if I unplug the 2 wire clip from behind the alternater the drain is gone. the alternater is brand new and it did it also with the old alternater as well. I also replaced the battery , thinking it was a dead short. could it be the starter celinoid or the temp sending unit?. Im thinking it is something that is in the engine compartment and is not needing the ignition to be turned on? A'm I way off base??
