decoding 4 speed transmissions HELP
I have a 68 camaro and it originally had a 3 speed on the floor I want to change it to a 4 speed. I have acquired over the years 3 trans that are all four speeds, where I got them and how much I paid I am still not sure. But I have 3 lets call them #1, #2, and #3. The number one is a aluminum case which i thought was a muncie but after a bit of research of number I see may be a saginaw, Any way the numbers on the main case are 3925656, and on the tail shaft are 3873886. On Tranny #2 I have a aluminum case again with side numbers 3885010, and I can get any other numbers you may need. I also have tranny #3 which is a steel case, but has real strange outside numbers on the main case#9925858. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated, to decoding this number problem. I want to put one in my car, with the 67-69 correct hurst step over shifter that I have already purchased, and also am not sure which shifter mounting bracket I will need. I have seen a few on ebay and other places, and some say original big block and others say small block and I am going to run a small block but am not sure why it matters or which one I need, Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, a lot in advance for all your help.

Hey I do know that Transmission #2 is a m20 muncie 4spd that is correct for a 1968 camaro, according to the maincase # that you listed for it. I just bought the same tranny for my 1967 camaro. Nice trans to go with for the car. Hope this helps. Jeff
Hey thanks alot for the help, I really appreciate it!
Ill let you know how it goes, do you also know I am putting it into my camaro and I have the correct hurst shifter for 67-69 camaro that I ordered and I just am not sure what shift bracket to use.
Would you know which one to use or what it looks like b/c I have seen several,
Thanks,
Andy
